Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton is on the verge of a permanent transfer to Ligue 1 club Lyon after struggling to secure regular playing time at Liverpool. Morton, who joined Liverpool's academy at age seven, made just five appearances last season under new manager Arne Slot and only 14 senior appearances overall. Seeking more consistent minutes, a move to Lyon appears to be in both parties' best interests.
Negotiations between Liverpool and Lyon have experienced some delays due to disagreements over the transfer fee. Liverpool initially demanded €9 million (£7.8 million; $10.3 million), which Lyon considered too high. However, later reports indicate that the clubs are close to agreeing on a €17 million (£15 million) fee for the 22-year-old midfielder. This valuation suggests Liverpool is aiming to recoup some of its investment amid a summer of significant spending exceeding €300 million, highlighted by the arrivals of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitiké, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong.
Despite the stalled talks, Morton has continued participating in Liverpool's preseason matches, including a start against AC Milan in the club's Asia tour, although he struggled to make a strong impression in the 4–2 defeat. The transfer move would offer Morton the opportunity for more regular first-team football and allow Liverpool to balance its squad after heavy recruitment.
