Tottenham’s newest signing Xavi Simons sparked plenty of reaction with his message to supporters after a deal has been confirmed.
Spurs had endured a frustrating transfer window in their pursuit of an attacking midfielder, with their plans repeatedly falling through.
James Maddison suffered a ACL injury in pre-season forced the club into the market earlier than expected, but their efforts ended in embarrassment when North London rivals Arsenal hijacked Tottenham’s deal for Eberechi Eze.
The search continued, but a move for Nico Paz also collapsed, with the Spaniard determined to secure a return to Real Madrid rather than pursue a switch to the Premier League.
Just as it looked like Tottenham might miss out again, the club shifted focus to Simons.
The Dutch midfielder had been heavily linked with Chelsea and looked close to a Stamford Bridge move, but with no agreement reached between the Blues and RB Leipzig, Spurs moved swiftly.
Spurs struck an agreement for Simons worth £51 million and following the announcement, the 22-year-old shared a message online that drew significant response from across the Premier League.

His post drew plenty of reaction from the Dutch contingent in the Premier League, with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City’s Tijjani Reijnders among those liking the update with Jeremie Frimpong commenting “Heavy” with a heart emoji.
Simons’ new Spurs teammates were quick to show support too, with Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson both liking the announcement.
Meanwhile, Chelsea fans voiced frustration after missing out on Simons, as the club turned their focus towards a deal for Alejandro Garnacho instead.
Tottenham capitalised on the delay, moving decisively to secure the former PSG man, who contributed an impressive 46 goals and assists during his time in Germany.

With the Simons deal secured, Spurs remain active in the transfer market as they push for a new striker.
Yoane Wissa is a player firmly on Tottenham’s radar, with Thomas Frank keen to add more firepower to his squad.
