While Manchester United have knocked Liverpool off top spot in the Premier League – before the two sides meet at Anfield on Sunday – Pep Guardiola insists he’s happy for Manchester City’s title challenge to go under the radar.

City also started the current campaign in sluggish fashion, losing their first home game 5-2 to Leicester City and also being held by Leeds and West Ham United in their opening five fixtures.

They currently lie sixth in the table, seven points below United and six below Liverpool, but with two games in hand on them both.

However, they were well off the pace last term, finishing runners-up behind the Reds, some 18 points behind Jurgen Klopp’s men as Liverpool clinched their first League Championship in 30 years with a record seven games to spare.

“When we dropped points to West Brom at home and West Ham away, the public opinion said we didn’t deserve to be contenders.

“We’re in one final, in the next round of the FA Cup and Champions League, so hopefully we can arrive at the last few games and try to fight for the title.”
