Liverpool and Newcastle United will make moves for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi late in the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old’s contract in south London expires next summer, and Palace have made it clear that they will cash in now rather than losing their captain for free in 12 months time.
Currently, the Eagles have set a £40million price tag on the centre-back, but sources say this will be reduced as the transfer window goes on, in order to find a resolution to the situation.
Newcastle and Liverpool are both very interested in Guehi, and the Premier League pair are happy to wait until the asking price drops before making offers.
Liverpool want Guehi
Last summer, Newcastle were desperate to secure the signing of Guehi in order to bolster their defensive ranks.
However, the Magpies were unable to come to an agreement with Crystal Palace for the defender and were forced to walk away from the deal.
It was a long, drawn-out saga between Palace and Newcastle 12 months ago, and it seems that once again, Guehi is at the centre of some transfer drama.

The situation is unlikely to have an outcome anytime soon, and it may take until the end of the window for the England international’s future to be decided.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are favourites to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Gunners lead their North London rivals Tottenham in the race for the 27-year-old, who has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park.
Sources say that Palace are prepared for offers to come in for Eze in the latter stages of the transfer window.
The Eagles would prefer to keep the England international but are remaining realistic and could be open to selling him if the right bid is made.
