Liverpool have made two new additions to their Champions League squad ahead of their Wednesday night showdown against Atletico Madrid.

The Reds prepare to return to European action with a heavyweight clash against the Spanish giants under the lights at Anfield.

The Reds’ squad list for their opening league phase fixture of the season boasts 24 players.

The trio of Alisson Becker, Freddie Woodman and Giorgi Mamadarashvili make up the goalkeeping department.

Woodman is set to make his matchday squad debut since his arrival on a free transfer from Preston North End this summer.

This is possible because UEFA allows clubs to name 12 substitutes for their matches, three more than the Premier League allows.

Because of this however, one player is left out of a matchday squad each game.

Trey Nyoni and Jayden Danns have both been confirmed to have been named on List B for Liverpool’s Champions League squad.

Curtis Jones is out of Liverpool’s opening Champions League fixture and there are also fitness concerns over Alexis Mac Allister, which make sense as to why Trey Nyoni has now been included.

Jayden Danns is an interesting addition, as he has not made a senior matchday squad since the start of the season.

The striker has featured twice for the U21’s in the last month however, after recovering from a pre-season back injury.

His inclusion could signal a continuation of Slot’s tactics to manage Alexander Isak’s minutes, as he doesn’t want to risk an injury to the club’s record signing.

Slot said ahead of the game that Isak won’t play ninety minutes, but he will feature against Atletico Madrid in some capacity.
