Liverpool Women Appoint Gareth Taylor as Head Coach
Liverpool FC Women have announced the appointment of Gareth Taylor as their new head coach in August 2025. Taylor joins the club as the permanent successor to Matt Beard, bringing extensive experience from his previous role at Manchester City Women, which he left earlier in March 2025.
Gareth Taylor, a former Wales international, spent nearly five years managing Manchester City Women, where he achieved significant success. Under his leadership, City won the FA Cup in 2020 and the League Cup in 2022. During the 2023-24 Barclays Women's Super League season, City narrowly missed out on the title, finishing second on goal difference.
Taylor's history with Manchester City spans over a decade, having initially worked in the men's academy before stepping up as the senior women's team head coach in May 2020. Throughout his tenure, the team consistently performed well, finishing second, third, fourth, and second in the WSL across his four full seasons and reaching the quarter-finals of various cup competitions.
The 52-year-old English coach is expected to bring his winning experience and leadership to Liverpool Women as they prepare for the upcoming Women’s Super League season. His long-term deal signals Liverpool's ambitions to strengthen their position in women's football.
