One of the hardest jobs to do is retaining the Premier League title, although Liverpool are doing all the right things to achieve this.

When Arne Slot first arrived, no one truly believed that his side would be challenging for the title straight away, especially as he had the tough task of replacing Jurgen Klopp.

However, the Dutchman’s transition was seamless and Liverpool defied all expectations, picking up the 20th league title in their history.

But next season is where the pressure really ramps up as many believe they will go on to win the league again, especially after seeing the players they have signed this summer.

They are still dipping into the transfer market as they are not fully satisfied with their squad just yet, although some believe that they are just one signing away from having the title all-but wrapped up.

A striker has been very high up on Liverpool’s agenda, if not top of it, all summer long, and it looks like they will definitely get one before the window closes.

Which one they get is yet to be seen but everyone associated with the club in some way is desperate for it to be Alexander Isak, with the Reds preparing a record-breaking bid for the Swede.

If they do manage to get Isak through the door at Anfield this summer, then many would tip Liverpool to win the league, with talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy believing they would be basically nailed on to retain their title.

“If Liverpool right now get him [Alexander Isak], then they are overwhelming favourites to lift the title again,” he told talkSPORT.

“I love the way Liverpool have gone about it.

Gone in for Florian Wirtz, bang, here we go, here’s what we need, identify it, and go and get the man.

“Unfortunately for Newcastle, there is a food chain, and Newcastle aren’t as big as Liverpool, they’re simply not and that’s how it is.”

The strategy from Liverpool does feel very different to previous years as instead of being linked to a massive amount of players but signing very few, if any, they have targeted only a handful and got almost all of them.

Sources at Liverpool suggest a deal for Isak is more than plausible, so the Premier League trophy might be staying where it is next season and maybe even many more after that.

It is clear to see that Isak is already one of the world’s best strikers, but if you put him in a team with the creative powerhouses of Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah, then it is basically game over for opposing defenders.

Darwin Nunez gets plenty of chances every time he plays but struggled to finish them, whereas the Swede would almost always tuck all of them away.

He is excellent with both feet and aerially dominant too, a good trait to have given the number of crosses the Liverpool full-backs like to put into the box.

Injuries are his only worry but if he stays fit, it is hard to see anything other than this transfer being a huge success, with it having the possibility to revolutionise the team for years to come.
