Newcastle United’s star forward Alexander Isak has sent shockwaves through St James’ Park this summer by signaling willingness to explore an exit.

Despite the Magpies’ adamant stance that Isak is not for sale, it’s been widely reported that the 25-year-old has informed club hierarchy of his desire to consider other options amid sustained interest from Anfield.

Newcastle United initially portrayed Isak’s omission from the club’s 30-man squad for their pre-season tour of Singapore and South Korea as down to a “minor thigh injury.”

Yet, David Ornstein has alternatively asserted that the player himself asked to be excluded from the trip due to the transfer interest.

It certainly was a big revelation but one that is not too surprising all things considered.

Now ESPN’s Mark Ogden has reported that Liverpool are indeed the frontrunners to sign the Swede despite interest from Al-Hilal:

“Alexander Isak is open to the possibility of a move away from Newcastle United this summer, with Liverpool the frontrunners to sign the forward if he becomes available,” Ogden wrote.
