Arne Slot has joked how ‘money’ played a role in Liverpool retaining the services of Mohamed Salah.

The Reds announced earlier today that the winger has penned a two-year extension at Anfield.

Salah had reached the final few months of his contract prior to putting pen to paper on a bumper new deal, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold similarly on the cusp of becoming free agents as it stands.

Salah was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly showing an interest in the forward too, but has decided to remain on Merseyside.

Asked about the role that he played, as manager, in convincing his No.

What it might tell you is that it is not only a good season now we want more next season and Mo is convinced we can do so.

Reports have claimed that the Liverpool skipper is set to also sign a two-year contract extension.

However, Slot remained coy on the matter and assessed his recent performances instead.

I am very happy with Virgil this season he has been incredible for us.

Liverpool host West Ham this weekend, and they will be keen to bounce back to winning ways after suffering only their second defeat of the season against Fulham last week.
