Liverpool are bracing themselves for a fresh approach from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz with the Bundesliga side ready to test the Reds' resolve over the Colombia winger.

Bayern remain keen on Diaz despite having seen an opening proposal worth €67.5million (£58.6m) immediately rejected last week.

Liverpool dismissed an approach from Barcelona earlier this summer and are insistent Diaz is still viewed as an important player in Arne Slot's squad having played a key role in last season's Premier League title triumph.

Nevertheless, Diaz's long-term future has been called into question in recent months with the 28-year-old having entered the last two years of his Anfield deal and talks having thus far not progressed over a new contract.

The forward revealed last month that while negotiations with Liverpool remain open, his representatives have been approached by a number of potential suitors and that subsequent discussions had taken place.

Now Bayern are ready to return with an improved offer in an attempt to weaken the Reds' resolve over Diaz.

Liverpool will not entertain any sale during this transfer window unless they are given a proposal that would be deemed impossible to turn down.

And it has been claimed Bayern will turn to Lyon's Belgium international winger Malick Fofana should they fail in their imminent latest effort to sign Diaz, who has also previously been courted by the Saudi Pro League.

Barcelona are also contemplating whether to return with a more sizeable bid for the player.
