A window of opportunity could allow Liverpool to sting Merseyside rivals Everton by piecing together an exciting swap deal.
The Reds have allowed Luis Diaz to join Bayern Munich in a £65.5million deal, leaving a vacancy to be filled on Arne Slot's left wing.
Current Liverpool star Cody Gakpo is the favourite to fill it, with wonderkid Rio Ngumoha and new signing Hugo Ekitike providing back-up.
But Lyon youngster Malick Fofana is a player on the reigning Premier League champions' radar, just in case they find the cash to go after a brand new Diaz replacement, and the Belgian wide man has also interested the Toffees.

Everton are currently the more advanced of the two English clubs, having been engaged in discussions with Lyon over a transfer fee this week.
Because Lyon are showing interest in Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton, who has decided that the best move for his career is to seek regular game time away from Anfield.
Morton, 22, spent last season with Arne Slot's squad but he was only given five appearances in all competitions.
And Lyon have made enquiries with the Reds to find out what it would take to sign him.

If Liverpool twig that Morton's exit could land them Fofana, and they conclude that they need an extra body on the left flank, a situation could arise whereby Everton are agonisingly beaten to the punch by their local foes.
The Toffees are seemingly preparing for the worst, even if Liverpool stay out of the picture, as Fabrizio Romano claims that they have been gathering information on Como star Assane Diao and Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo.
