It is going to be a busy summer for Richard Hughes, when he finally starts work as Liverpool's new sporting director.

FSG and Michael Edwards have likely been pressing ahead with plans to appoint Jürgen Klopp's successor but Hughes will certainly be involved in the decision-making process.

Then there is the matter of transfer dealings and new contracts.



The Liverpool ECHO among others reports that Woodfine is set to be appointed as part of the restructure this summer.

He, Hughes and Edwards are all already acquainted from their time together at Portsmouth.

It would appear that FSG's new CEO of Football is the driving force behind the appointment.

He was the one who pushed for Hughes' appointment as sporting director with the pair having a professional and personal relationship for over 20 years.

He would only officially spend six months in the role though before Edwards decided to walk away, meaning Ward stepped up into the main sporting director post.

It has been a merry-go-round since then though.

And Edwards and Ward are an example of how such a partnership can work.

If Liverpool's new sporting director duo can perform as well as the last, the future will look even brighter at Anfield.
