Tributes have continued to pour in months after with the Reds making the decision to retire the Jota’s No.20 shirt number at the club.
Meanwhile, the number 21 jersey he previously wore for the Portuguese national team has been passed on to his close friend and former teammate, Ruben Neves.
This decision was confirmed by Portugal’s head coach Roberto Martinez.
Neves also got a tattoo on his calf in honour of the former Liverpool man.
And while there was plenty of speculation over whether the club would be a paying out Jota’s contract to the family, an update straight from the source has arrived.
Speaking on the Overlap US, Liverpool chairman Tom Wener spoke about the memory of Diogo Jota and confirmed that the “family are well taken care of financially”
“He was an extraordinary person who was beloved, not because he was the leading goal scorer, but because he was genuinely kind,” Werner began.
“I find him incredibly curious, when I have conversations with him we would talk a lot about gaming.”
“He had an esports team; he had a certain breath of curiosity that drew people to him.”
“Extremely popular among his teammates around the dressing room.”
“He was incredibly kind and was incredibly curious?
Last year he had a few tough injuries but he didn’t mope around, he focused on helping the club and knew he could have an impact even if he didn’t start matches”
He added that the Rute Cardoso, Jota’s widow, and his children are well taken care of from a financial point of view:
“It was immediately important to us that we reach out to his widow and let it be known that at Liverpool, we are a family and we wanted to make sure she and his children are well taken care of financially”
