Liverpool have agreed a deal worth up to £79 million to sign French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, marking another major swing in their high-octane summer rebuild under Arne Slot.

The 23-year-old will undergo a medical today in the UK before inking a six-year contract, with personal terms expected to be a formality.

He’ll then fly out to join the Reds on their pre-season Asia tour later this week.

According to Sky Sports News and The Athletic, the deal comprises a guaranteed £69 million up front, with £10 million in add-ons.

The bonuses are reportedly tied to Liverpool’s trophy success and Ekitike’s contribution, challenging clauses that the club would be happy to meet.

Ekitike was Liverpool’s Plan B after they were told Newcastle striker Alexander Isak was not for sale.

Ironically, Newcastle themselves had a £70 million bid rejected for Ekitike earlier this month.

Instead, Liverpool acted swiftly and decisively, reaching a compromise with Frankfurt, who had initially held out for a package close to £82 million.

The Frenchman was an unused substitute in Frankfurt’s pre-season clash against FSV Frankfurt on Saturday, with manager Dino Toppmoller admitting his departure would be “a bitter loss.”

And it’s easy to see why.

Ekitike bagged 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, firing Frankfurt to a third-place Bundesliga finish and Champions League qualification.

His arrival pushes Liverpool’s 2025 summer spending over £250 million, having already landed Florian Wirtz for a potential British record £116 million, and defenders Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez for a combined £70 million.

The Reds are going all-in, rebuilding an attack fit for a new era under Slot — and Ekitike is the latest explosive piece in the puzzle.
