Liverpool are expected to contact Bayer Leverkusen and trigger Jeremie Frimpong's £30million release clause to make the Holland international their first signing of the summer transfer window.
Negotiations are ongoing with the player's representatives over personal terms with Frimpong keen to make the move to Anfield.
The 24-year-old, a right-sided player who has featured at both full-back and wing-back for Leverkusen, has been identified as a priority as head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes begin to strengthen the squad of the new Premier League champions.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold having last week confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season on a free transfer, Liverpool have decided to bolster their right-back options to provide competition to Conor Bradley.

Frimpong has five goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances this season, and had 26 goal contributions last term as Leverkusen won the German league and cup double and also reached the Europa League final.
It is understood Leverkusen are being kept aware of developments, and will be formally approached by Liverpool once the Reds reach an agreement with the player.

Frimpong arrived at Leverkusen in 2021 after spending two years at Celtic, where he won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup.
He has the added benefit of fitting the criteria as a "homegrown" player after spending almost a decade with Manchester City's youth set-up having moved to their academy at the age of nine.
Frimpong was part of the Leverkusen side thrashed 4-0 at Anfield by Liverpool during the Champions League opening stage in November.
