Liverpool has parted ways with its technical skills coach Diogo Paiva “earlier than expected” - less than a year after his appointment.

Paiva was among several new backroom additions to the club last summer following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, which prompted a major overhaul behind the scenes.

He joined from Porto’s academy in September and brought experience from working alongside former Liverpool elite development coach Vitor Matos in both Portugal and China.

During his time at the club, Paiva operated at the AXA Training Centre, working closely with both the first team and academy players.

Paiva wrote: “Dear Liverpool Family, this club has been more than just a place to work!

Diogo Paiva has been released from his role as technical skills coach after less than 12 months

Former Netherlands international and ex-Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is expected to join Slot’s team as Heitinga’s replacement, although that appointment is yet to be confirmed.

It had been rumored that former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt had been circled by Reds officials as a possible target, though his agent quickly denied those links and he signed with a Dutch second-tier side as head coach.

Earlier this week, Liverpool also confirmed a change at academy level, with former Wales manager Rob Page set to take charge of the Under-21s

He replaces Barry Lewtas, who stepped down after 12 years at the club, including five in charge of the U21s.

However the club still need to recruit a new U18's coach as well as a new women's team manager after Matt Beard left his role at the end of last season and has since been appointed the new manager of Burnley women.
