Liverpool have officially signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth £79 million (€91.5 million). The initial fee is £69 million (€80 million) with a further £10 million in add-ons, pushing Liverpool’s total summer spending close to £300 million.
The 23-year-old striker, who joined Frankfurt initially on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, scored 26 goals in 64 appearances for the Bundesliga club and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2024-25. Ekitike helped Frankfurt qualify for the Champions League with 22 goals in 48 games across all competitions last season.
Before his time in Germany, Ekitike made 33 appearances for PSG and won a Ligue 1 medal. He started his professional career at Stade de Reims. He is also a France U21 international.
During preseason, Ekitike was an unused substitute in Frankfurt’s match against FSV Frankfurt, and his departure was described as “a bitter loss” by Frankfurt's manager. Liverpool turned to Ekitike after being informed Newcastle’s Alexander Isak was not for sale despite Newcastle’s own £70 million offer for Ekitike being rejected.
Ekitike has completed a medical and agreed personal terms with Liverpool. He will soon join Liverpool’s preseason tour in Hong Kong. His squad number is yet to be announced.
This signing adds to Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s summer acquisitions, which include Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Florian Wirtz. Liverpool’s recruitment of Ekitike is seen as securing a striker with high potential, with the club having initiated contact with the player as early as January 2025.
Overall, this transfer signals Liverpool’s intent to bolster their attacking options significantly ahead of the next Premier League season.
