Liverpool have confirmed the departure of Caoimhin Kelleher to Premier League side Brentford in a deal that could bring in £18million.

Kelleher was approaching the final 12 months of his contract with the Reds and had made clear his intention to leave this summer in search of regular first-team football having been understudy to Alisson Becker.

And Brentford have moved swiftly to snap up the Republic of Ireland international to replace Dutch keeper Mark Flekken, who on Tuesday moved to Bayer Leverkusen for around £11m.

Liverpool will receive an initial £12.5m for Kelleher, with add-ons taking the overall fee to £18m.

The 26-year-old becomes the second high-profile exit from the Premier League champions this transfer window with Trent Alexander-Arnold having joined Real Madrid in a deal worth £10m to Liverpool.

Kelleher was expected to be in high demand during the transfer window with a number of Premier League clubs assessing their goalkeeping options.

Both West Ham United and promoted Leeds United had shown a definite interest while Bournemouth, Chelsea and Aston Villa were among other who were monitoring developments.

But Kelleher will now play for Thomas Frank's Brentford, where he will link up with former Liverpool team-mates Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho, who both made the switch to the London side last summer.

Kelleher, who was signed from Ringmahon Rangers on 2015, made 67 appearances for Liverpool - keeping 24 clean sheets - after coming through the Academy ranks and making his senior debut in September 2019.

He started the League Cup final wins over Chelsea in 2022 and 2024 and also claimed winners' medals in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Kelleher also holds the record for having won the most penalty shoot-outs as a Liverpool goalkeeper.

Kelleher made 20 appearances for Liverpool this season, 10 of which came in the Premier League.
