The Uruguayan striker joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for an initial £64 million. Over 143 appearances, Núñez scored 40 goals but his impact diminished during the last season, despite Liverpool’s Premier League success[1][2].

Interest from several clubs, including Italian Serie A side Napoli, came earlier, but Liverpool rejected Napoli’s bid due to valuation disagreements and payment terms extending until 2026[1]. Ultimately, Núñez pushed for a move to the Saudi Pro League, which materialized with Al-Hilal agreeing terms[1].

With Núñez’s departure finalized, Liverpool are now actively seeking a replacement striker. The club remains cautious, only targeting an attacker who can genuinely improve the starting lineup[1][3]. Liverpool recently had a £110m bid rejected by Newcastle for striker Alexander Isak, a target still admired by the Reds, but they will only pursue Isak if a replacement is secured first[3].

Additionally, Liverpool are keen to integrate younger players from their academy, such as 16-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, following his strong pre-season performances[3].
