Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Rob Page as the new head coach of the club's Under-21s side.

It is the latest announcement in a series of changes for both first-team and Academy staff members.

The Reds had already confirmed the departure of the Academy's long-term servant Barry Lewtas, who had headed up the U21s for the past five years.

The 44-year-old had progressed from Under-18s and before that the Under-12s over a total 12-year span.

Stepping into the role he vacated is confirmed to be Page, who arrives with a wealth of experience from international management to impress upon the next generation of Liverpool players.

"Rob brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to a key role as young players look to bridge that gap from Academy prospect to first-team footballer," Liverpool Academy director Alex Inglethorpe has said.

"His recent achievements in guiding Wales to the last 16 at Euro 2020 before qualifying for the 2022 World Cup speak for themselves but perhaps less heralded is the work that took place during his time in charge of the national team, which saw numerous pathway players make it into the senior squad.

"This is something we have seen first-hand at Liverpool with several of our Academy players making significant progress on the international stage under Rob’s guidance.

"This level of experience in transitioning young footballers towards the professional game and on to the highest levels of domestic and international football will be a significant resource for all at the Academy, especially the players.

"Myself and all the staff are greatly looking forward to working with Rob as we endeavour to continue producing players capable of playing at the highest level and in the most demanding of arenas."

As well as his achievements with the Welsh national team, the 50-year-old also has managerial experience with both Port Vale and Northampton Town.

During his playing career between 1993 and 2011, he was a fully fledged Welsh international who played for clubs such as Watford, Sheffield United and Coventry City amongst others.

Page's appointment is one step completed in the process of a staffing overhaul this summer.

Another position that requires filling is the head coach of the U18s, as another long-term servant Marc Bridge-Wilkinson had stepped away before Lewtas did.

Also in Arne Slot's group overseeing the Premier League champions, assistant John Heitinga recently departed to become head coach of Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax.
