Liverpool have officially confirmed the appointment of Rob Page as head coach of their U21s side.

He is replacing Barry Lewtas in a key role at the club’s Academy (via reports by Liverpool FC).

Page joins the Reds after a notable spell in charge of Wales’ senior national team.

During his four-year tenure, the 50-year-old guided the country to the last 16 at Euro 2020 and secured qualification for the 2022 World Cup, Wales’ first since 1958.

His work with younger age groups, including a stint leading the U21s, built a strong foundation for his approach to youth development.

Before managing at the international level, Page spent time at Port Vale and Northampton Town following the end of an 18-year playing career that saw him earn 41 caps for Wales.

As a centre-back, he made over 250 appearances for Watford, where he was named captain by Graham Taylor and voted Player of the Season during their Premier League campaign in 1999-2000.

Page also played for Sheffield United, Cardiff City, Coventry City, Huddersfield Town and Chesterfield before retiring in 2011.

LFC Academy director Alex Inglethorpe welcomed the appointment, highlighting Page’s experience in helping young players progress to senior football (via same reports).

“His recent achievements in guiding Wales to the last 16 at Euro 2020 before qualifying for the 2022 World Cup speak for themselves,” Inglethorpe said.

“But perhaps less heralded is the work that took place during his time in change of the national team.

“This is something we have seen first-hand at Liverpool with several of our Academy players making significant progress on the international stage under Rob’s guidance.”

Page’s arrival adds a wealth of experience to Liverpool’s Academy setup as the club continues its focus on developing elite-level players for the future.
