Liverpool have officially announced the departure of assistant coach John Heitinga, who has been named the new head coach of Ajax.
It marks a new chapter for Heitinga — and a small reshuffle behind the scenes at Anfield.
The move was expected after Ajax lost out on their top two managerial targets.
With Francesco Farioli and Erik ten Hag heading elsewhere, the Eredivisie runners-up saw Heitinga as the ideal fit.
His past connection with Ajax and recent work at Liverpool made him the right man at the right time.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal, reporting: “Ajax have agreed deal to appoint John Heitinga as new head coach on two year contract.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot had high praise for Heitinga and made it clear he had hoped to keep him.
If John is smart, he would stay one more season.”
Heitinga briefly led the Reds from the touchline earlier this season and impressed during a high-pressure win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
If I say talented, I don’t even rate him high enough because he’s more than that already.”
With Heitinga heading home to Amsterdam, attention now turns to who fills his shoes.
