Liverpool has now seen two bids for Florian Wirtz rejected by Bayer Leverkusen, according to reports in Germany.

Following Bayer's rejection of the initial offer, said to be $115 million plus performance-related bonuses, the Reds reportedly upped the ante earlier this week, increasing the package to $135 million, which included about $16 million in add-ons.

But Leverkusen turned down the improved bid too, Kicker reported on Sunday, even though it was believed that Liverpool was closing in on the signing after moving ahead of Bayern Munich in the battle for the talented playmaker's signature.

Leverkusen is holding out for $170 million, which the German side has been demanding all along, per the report.

To make progress after two rounds of negotiations failed to produce a breakthrough, Liverpool might consider sending a player to Leverkusen to seal the deal.

Harvey Elliott or Jarrell Quansah could potentially be part of the deal, both of whom have reportedly caught Leverkusen's interest.

With a significant gap between what Liverpool is willing to pay and Leverkusen's demands, the inclusion of either the ex-Fulham prodigy or the young defender might just help bridge that divide.

Elliott hasn't quite found a regular spot in Arne Slot's team this season, and the arrival of Wirtz may further limit his playing time, prompting the 22-year-old to look elsewhere.
