Young Red Isaac Mabaya joined League One side Wigan Athletic this summer on a season-long loan.
After coming off the bench in Wigan’s opening two games, the 20-year-old was given his maiden senior start in the League Cup tie against Notts County on Tuesday.
However, the young right-back had to leave the field on a stretcher after only 29 minutes of the match following a serious injury.
The Latics boss Ryan Lowe stated after the match, “He’s in a boot at the moment, I don’t really know right now.
He’s had his ups and downs with injuries, but we thought this one might be the year for him – both ourselves and Liverpool thought that.
“We know it’s something to do with a lower limb, but I’m just gutted for him.
It’s probably not looking good, though, especially with his injury record.
It doesn’t look good.”
Some updates have suggested that the player might have suffered an Achilles injury, which can be serious, taking him out for this season.
Adding to his update, Lowe shared the next plan of action regarding Mabaya:
“We’ll speak to Liverpool to see what they want to do.
Knowing his injury record, and what he’s done, he’ll probably go back to Liverpool and let them address the situation from there.”
The Zimbabweian international made his senior debut for the Reds in the fourth round of FA Cup against Plymouth Argyle.
But throughout his career, Mabaya has been suffering injuries that has majorly marred his playtime.
It remains to be seen what exactly has happened with Isaac Mabaya, whether he recovers from the injury sooner or not and how Liverpool handle the situation.
