Anyone at all active on ‘Liverpool Twitter’ over the past few weeks will have been unable to avoid the dreaded ‘depth chart’.

The graphic, put together to demonstrate Liverpool’s various options in positions across the pitch, has turned into a flashpoint between different factions of fans.

Prevailing opinion seems to be that while defensive depth is adequate, there is a major dearth of quality up front: that picture was flipped on its head vs AC Milan, with Divock Origi stepping up to the plate as a slightly rotated back line struggled.

Jordan Henderson was the hero, but the comeback would not have been possible without Origi — get ready for some more scintillating depth chart discourse on Twitter over the coming days.

For the future, Klopp must be wondering if he can really afford to rest Van Dijk when he is available.

However, in a crazy five-minute blitz, the absence of Van Dijk was certainly felt.

Maybe Joël Matip should have dropped or maybe Gomez should have stepped up, but it is hard to imagine this happening with the marshalling figure of Van Dijk present.
