Liverpool have postponed the start of pre-season training after Diogo Jota’s death.
The Premier League champions were originally due to begin a phased return to the AXA Training Centre on Friday ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
But in the wake of Jota and his brother Andre Silva being killed when their Lamborghini suffered a tyre blowout, the Reds have deferred preparations.
The Portugal international had been travelling back to Merseyside to report for duty when the incident occurred in the Spanish province of Zamora.
He was advised against flying by doctors after undergoing minor surgery following the conclusion of the previous season for club and country.
Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, has joined Reds teammates in paying a touching tribute to the club’s late number 20 following his untlimely passing.
He said: “I am truly lost for words.
“Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break.
Team-mates come and go but not like this.
“It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.
“My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children.
“Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get.
“They will never be forgotten.”
