Liverpool have seen plenty of unexpected shifts in their coaching setup this summer, and one recent exit has turned a few heads.

After losing long-serving coach John Achterberg last summer, the Reds have now seen another big change behind the scenes.

Claudio Taffarel and Fabian Otte both left in the same week, marking a rare shake-up for the goalkeeping staff.

Of the two, Otte’s departure stands out.

The German coach only joined Liverpool last summer to bring fresh ideas as head of goalkeeping but moves on after just a year on Merseyside.

To steady things quickly, the Reds have brought back Xavi Valero, a trusted figure from the Rafa Benítez era, to lead the first-team goalkeeping setup into the new season.

Fabian Otte hasn’t wasted any time lining up his next role, with BBC’s Sami Mokbel reporting that he is now set to join Thomas Frank’s coaching team at Tottenham Hotspur.

His quick move comes just days after Liverpool confirmed his departure, adding an unexpected twist to the Reds’ ongoing backroom shuffle.

Otte, who previously worked with Hoffenheim, Burnley, Borussia Mönchengladbach and the United States national team, was seen as a fresh voice when he arrived to replace John Achterberg last year.

While Otte takes on a new challenge elsewhere in the Premier League, Liverpool have wasted no time reinforcing their goalkeeping group.

Alisson Becker will now work under Valero’s experienced guidance, with new faces Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman providing support.

Caoimhin Kelleher’s switch to Brentford and Vitezslav Jaros’s loan to Ajax round out a busy summer of moves between the posts.

With pre-season under way, the Reds will hope their revamped setup ensures consistency in goal — even as familiar names take up new roles elsewhere.
