Hugo Ekitike is on the verge of pushing Liverpool's summer overhaul past the $335 million mark, and will join his new colleagues in Asia once his transfer formalities are sorted.

The Bundesliga team are assured a sum of $93M (£69m) with an additional potential $13M (£10m) in add-ons contingent on both Liverpool and Etikite's success.

With the agreement in place, the French striker has been granted permission to journey from Germany to finalize his transfer, with an anticipated arrival in the UK on Tuesday for a medical examination.

Whilst a significant group of players and officials are currently in Hong Kong for the initial leg of Liverpool's Far East tour, the club has retained several staff members at home to wrap up the signing, including medical personnel and sporting director Richard Hughes.

Ekitike has already settled personal terms on a six-year contract that will bind him to the Reds until the summer of 2031.

Once the formalities are concluded, it is hoped that the player will then jet off to join the Liverpool squad in Asia later in the week

Although they're considered challenging to achieve, the success required means Liverpool would have no issues with the additional expenditure.

Ekitike, who netted 22 goals in 48 matches last season, has risen as one of Europe's most coveted strikers, having kick-started his career at Reims before spending 18 months at Paris Saint-Germain and then moving to Frankfurt at the dawn of 2024.

Frankfurt turned down a bid of $93M (£69.4m) from Newcastle United last week with none of the add-ons agreed, and was seeking a package closer to $117M (£86.7m).

The Magpies stepped away from the negotiation table once the player expressed his desire to join Liverpool, who has now successfully reached an agreement.

Liverpool has agreed a deal for the French star

Darwin Nunez is increasingly expected to depart, Luis Diaz is a prime target for Bayern Munich and Barcelona, the future of Federico Chiesa - who missed the Asia trip due to a minor issue - is uncertain, teenager Ben Doak is sought after by several clubs, and the Reds are also dealing with the tragic loss of Diogo Jota earlier this month.

The total package for Ekitike will push Liverpool's spending in this transfer window past the $335M (£250m) mark as Arne Slot seeks to refresh his squad ahead of their Premier League title defence.

In addition to the $156M Wirtz deal, Liverpool have also forked out $39M to secure his Leverkusen colleague and Dutch international right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez has been signed for $54M rom Bournemouth, while 20 year old goalkeeper Armin Pecsi was acquired for a nominal fee from Puskas Akademia.

Another shot-stopper, Freddie Woodman, has joined on a free transfer, while Georgian international keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has arrived following an agreement with Valencia last year.
