Liverpool will return from the international break with a trip to Burnley, and it could be a chance for new record signing Alexander Isak to make his debut for the club.

Isak joined on transfer deadline day, a little over 24 hours after the Reds claimed victory in their last league game against Arsenal.

Isak appears to have come through the international break unscathed, and joined his new team-mates in training ahead of the trip to Turf Moor.

Indeed, Liverpool boss Arne Slot has thanked Sweden counterpart Jon Dahl Tomasson for using the striker sparingly after several months without any competitive football.

“First of all I think the Swedish manager, Jon Dahl Tomasson, deserves a big, big, big compliment because he gets one of the best, maybe the best striker in the world in and needs to play two very important games for his country, but understands if he would play him twice for 90 minutes the player would have probably been injured for multiple weeks,” Slot said.

“That is not always easy for a manager, that he takes care of the interest of the player, so he deserves a big compliment for that and we will treat Alex the same as they did.”

Those comments suggest Isak might well start from the bench on Sunday, and the Premier League leaders also dropped what might be another hint to the starting XI on social media.

This could mean Jeremie Frimpong is not quite ready to return in Bradley’s place at right-back after injury issues of his own.

Liverpool’s South American players are back after some serious travel time during the international break, but the Sunday kick-off has given them time to recover and get up to speed.

Alexis Mac Allister shared a matchday preview photo on Instagram on Saturday, indicating he’s ready to go again after playing the full 90 for Argentina in Ecuador.

Milos Kerkez was also busy during the break, albeit in Europe rather than across the Atlantic, and he shared an update on Sunday morning after returning from a Hungary double-header.

Historically, players who share the graphics have tended to be involved in the matchday squad, whether that means they will be in the starting XI or begin the match on the bench remains to be seen.

Burnley manager Scott Parker confirmed the Clarets haven’t suffered any new injury issues during the international break.

Hjalmar Ekdal was forced off in Sweden’s defeat to Kosovo, but has been passed fit to return against the champions.

Parker’s side aren’t at full strength, though, with Zeki Amdouni remaining out long-term and Connor Roberts among the other absentees.
