Liverpool fans will have their eyes firmly fixed on Manchester this Tuesday evening as the Professional Footballers’ Association prepares to unveil the 2025 Player of the Year categories at their prestigious annual ceremony.

The red carpet will roll out at the Manchester Opera House from 5pm.

The ceremony, which will be streamed live on the PFA’s TikTok channel between 5pm and 7:15pm, represents the pinnacle of peer recognition in English football.

Unlike other awards decided by journalists or fan votes, the PFA Players’ Player of the Year is chosen by the players themselves – making it perhaps the most prestigious individual honour in the English game.

And the PFA have now revealed that both Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister have been shortlisted for the Players’ Player of the Year award.

Having previously lifted the trophy in 2018 and 2022, Salah enters tonight’s ceremony as the overwhelming favourite after delivering what many consider to be his finest individual season in a Liverpool shirt.

His extraordinary 2024-25 campaign saw him net 29 Premier League goals while providing 18 assists – figures that earned him both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards.

The sheer magnitude of Salah’s contribution to Liverpool’s title triumph cannot be overstated.

His 47 goal involvements matched the single-season Premier League record, placing him alongside legends Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole.

Starting all 38 of Liverpool’s championship-winning matches, Salah was the driving force behind Arne Slot’s side securing the Premier League crown by a commanding 10-point margin.

Alongside the Egyptian, Alexis Mac Allister has earned his maiden PFA nomination after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable midfield performers.

The Argentine international appeared in 35 of Liverpool’s 38 league matches.

The Reds pair join a six-man shortlist including Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), and Declan Rice (Arsenal).

Isak is not expected to attend tonight’s gala.

Although he has been nominated for the main award, uncertainty over his future at St James’ Park will keep him away from the ceremony.
