Liverpool have already spent over £250m this window, with that figure potentially rising to £400m if they return with a higher bid for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
The Sweden international has expressed a desire to leave, but Newcastle’s asking price remains well above Liverpool’s initial offer, which was rejected last week.
Isak has missed pre-season due to a reported thigh injury but was recently spotted training at former club Real Sociedad’s facilities.
He has now returned to the UK but remains sidelined from the main group after receiving a warning from Eddie Howe.
Isak arrived at the Newcastle training ground to train and recover away from the rest of the squad as instructed by Eddie Howe on Wednesday.
Despite all the hype around Alexander Isak, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has told the club not to spend £150million on the forward.
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Carragher said: “He (Isak) will be an amazing signing but from a fan’s point of view for myself, I don’t want Liverpool to spend £150m on Isak.
There’s something about Liverpool buying another striker (Ekitike), and he’s backup.
Something about it doesn’t feel right to me.
“I look at Isak, and he’s obviously thrown his toys out the pram once Arsenal signed a striker and Liverpool signed a striker.
It feels a bit messy to me now.
“For me, when I think of Liverpool, it doesn’t look really planned?
I don’t think the plan is to buy a striker for £80m, and then be looking to buy another one for £120m.
“In terms of what Liverpool have done in the summer by bringing in players, they’ve spent a lot of money and it doesn’t feel like the Liverpool way of doing things so much.”
According to Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, Liverpool have had every encouragement to put in another bid for Alexander Isak now.
