Here are your Liverpool evening headlines for Tuesday, June 2.

Liverpool won’t listen to Coutinho and his agent

Philippe Coutinho continues to be the ultimate example of the grass not always being greener on the other side.

The Brazilian has endured a disappointing spell since making his big money move to Barcelona, and even when offered a ray of light with a loan move to Bayern Munich, he suffers the indignation of the German giants choosing not to follow up on a permanent move.

With that option out of the window, and with Coutinho seemingly desperate now to bring his time at the Nou Camp to an end, he and agent Kia Joorabchian have been on the charm offensive in their hunt for a new club.

And they’ve set their sights firmly on a return to the Premier League, which will of course lead many to the natural conclusion that a dramatic return to Anfield is in the offing.

As Paul Gorst argues though, that isn’t likely, and the Reds would be wise to give Coutinho and his agent a wide berth – you can read his thoughts on the matter here.

Sport stars across the world have been showing solidarity and support in tribute to George Floyd following his death last month.

Mr Floyd died after being knelt on the neck by a Minneapolis police officer while being arrested, with a video capturing the nine-minute ordeal as he struggled for air and cried out “I can’t breathe”.

The officer, Derek Chauvin, has since been charged with third-degree murder, while three other officers have been sacked.

Mr Floyd’s death has led to protests and riots across the United States, with a number of sports stars showing their support over the weekend.

And on Monday, Liverpool’s squad joined in the show of strength with a powerful image of the players taking the knee at Anfield.

The image was shared by the club’s players alongside the message “Unity is strength #BlackLivesMatter”, and was spotted by LeBron James, with the NBA icon sharing it to his followers.

Assuming everything goes to plan and the Premier League makes its return later this month, barring a quite astounding turnaround, Liverpool are going to be crowned champions.

The Reds are 25 points clear at the summit, and need just six points to wrap up their first league crown since 1990.

Jurgen Klopp though insists nothing has been won yet though, and he’ll be going all out once the Premier League makes its return.

But Klopp said: "We are still not champions. We have to play football games and we have to win them.

"We know we are close but close is not there. There are 27 points left for us and we will try everything to take them all.”

Of course, even the German will know deep down it’s just a case of dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s, which leaves the question of the celebrations.

Liverpool fans will have been dreaming of this moment for years, but the coronavirus epidemic has of course scuppered any plans for an immediate celebration similar to those following last year’s Champions League final victory.

Klopp though has promised a parade will take place – when it’s safe to do so.

“You celebrate always, wherever it is.

"If we will be champions - whichever celebration is possible we will do as a team internally. And with all our supporters in the moment when we are allowed to do so again.

"I can promise if it happens there will be a parade as well. Whenever. Who cares!”
