Despite all the high-profile transfer business this summer, the Reds still have some work to do in the transfer window.
Liverpool’s need to strengthen at centre-back has grown increasingly apparent as the summer has progressed.
The sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen in a £35 million deal has left Arne Slot with only Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as recognised senior central defenders going into the new campaign.
Complicating matters further, Konate’s contract situation remains unresolved – while talks over new terms are ongoing, no agreement has yet been reached, casting a degree of uncertainty over his long-term future at Anfield.
Marc Guehi is the preferred option to bring in at central defense this summer, with DaveOCKOP.com revealing as much back in March already.
We confirmed contact had been with his representatives made regarding a move.
The England international once again showed his quality in Crystal Palace’s penalty shoot-out win over Liverpool in the Community Shield on Sunday.
However, Guehi was withdrawn late in the match, looking slightly uncomfortable, though it remains uncertain whether this was due to an injury or purely a precautionary change.
He was later seen rejoining his teammates to celebrate and lift the Community Shield trophy.
Meanwhile, photos of Arne Slot and the Palace captain shaking hands in the Wembley tunnel went viral on social media.
And with the transfer window deadline rapidly approaching on September 1, the Reds are ready to push on with their interest.
DaveOCKOP.com can exclusively reveal that Liverpool is expected to hold talks this week coming for Marc Guehi.
Guehi is a key defensive target for Liverpool with much of the groundwork for a potential transfer already in place.
The 24-year-old only wants to join Liverpool should he leave Crystal Palace.
A mainstay in England’s starting XI during their run to the Euro 2024 final, Marc Guehi remains focused on retaining his spot in Thomas Tuchel’s plans as the build-up to the 2026 World Cup in the United States gathers pace.
As we exclusively revealed, Guehi has agreed personal terms with Liverpool, though the Reds are treading carefully over Crystal Palace’s sizeable valuation given the defender is entering the final year of his contract.
Reports suggest Palace are holding firm, with an asking price of up to £50 million for their captain.
Liverpool will only do a deal on their terms, and it’s believed that the South London club will lower their demands closer to the transfer deadline.
Speaking at Wembley on Sunday, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish seemed to hint that a deal may be forthcoming, saying:
“For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem,” he said.
“We had one bid last summer but Joachim Andersen went to Fulham and we couldn’t afford to lose both of them.”
“We then had another bid in January but that was a difficult situation, and the player had a point of view on that one.”
“So, we just have to see what happens, but it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”
