Liverpool face Mohamed Salah dilemma as five changes could be made for Merseyside derby

Having seen their Premier League title hopes recently dented, Liverpool returned to winning ways away at Fulham on Sunday.

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch, and Diogo Jota clinched a 3-1 victory as the Reds moved up to second in the table, level on points with leaders Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp made five changes to his side that won away at Atalanta on Thursday, with Mohamed Salah one of a number of Liverpool ‘big guns’ to drop to the bench.

And Klopp has a number of difficult selection decisions to ponder as he debates whether to stick with the players that defeated Fulham or restore some of his rested legs at Everton.

Konate comes back in

After keeping a first clean sheet in 10 matches against Atalanta, Klopp made just one change to his back five against Fulham as Jarell Quansah replaced Ibrahima Konate.

Alas, despite a quietly impressive showing from the youngster, Liverpool couldn’t make it back-to-back shut-outs.

But if Klopp opts to rest either of the pair, Joe Gomez is on standby to return to the starting XI.

Midfield mind field

It was all change for Liverpool in midfield against Fulham as Wataru Endo returned to the starting XI, having been rested against Atalanta, and was flanked by Harvey Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch.

Elsewhere, Jones had started three games in a row after his own return from a lengthy lay-off, prior to being rested against Fulham.

Consequently, the pair are likely both vying for that final starting berth, with Elliott perhaps more likely to keep his place ahead of Gravenberch if Klopp opts for minimal midfield changes.

Does Salah start?

Having looked out of sorts in recent weeks, Salah was utilised only as a substitute against Fulham as Klopp rotated his attacking options.

Any of the trio could drop out if the Egyptian is to return.

The Colombian has started all but one of the Reds’ seven matches since the March international break, so is perhaps the man next due a rest if Klopp rotates further.

Does he stick with the trio that started against Fulham, having looked the most lively of any combination fielded in recent weeks, or restore rotated but out-of-form legs, hoping time on the bench is just what they needed?
