Liverpool made it through an emotional day to beat Preston North End 3-1 in their opening pre-season friendly of the summer.

The first match since the tragic death of Diogo Jota, it was always going to be a tough occasion for the Reds players to manage.

But manage it they did, with moving tributes to Jota ongoing during an entertaining game of football.

Liverpool looked as good as ever, with plenty to enjoy about the two slightly new-look teams Arne Slot sent out in either half.

While the first 45 arguably brought a stronger XI, the second perhaps caught the greater attention of fans, with both Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez making their Liverpool debuts.

Frimpong showed off his exceptional pace, but it was Kerkez who supporters were raving about at the full-time whistle.

Frimpong and Kerkez have the potential to be extremely exciting signings for Liverpool, and it did not take them long to get into the action on Sunday.

Fans were especially taken by one moment from Kerkez, when the 21-year-old appeared to try and tackle a Preston player with his head in the attacking third of the pitch.

“Kerkez going to head the ball on the floor is exactly the level of mad I expect from someone with his dad,” one supporter joked.

“10/10 signing already just for that.”

“Love Kerkez already.

Going in to win a 50/50 with his head,” someone else added, with one more suggesting: “Someone please tell Kerkez it’s a pre-season friendly.”

“Milos Kerkez putting his head on the line for LFC in a pre-season game vs Preston,” said another.

Liverpool fans are going to love him,” was one more fan’s opinion.

Others were simply impressed by the all-round performance of the new left-back, as he displayed exactly why the Reds shelled out £40m on his signing.

“Kerkez running power is insane the second he releases the ball he’s already sprinting,” said one fan.

“Gakpo is gonna feast off that.”

“Kerkez vision and weight of pass has pleasantly surprised me,” another added, while one claimed that: “Watching guys try beat Kerkez 1v1 is gonna be too funny.”

It is not often that a new signing looks the part instantly when arriving at Liverpool.

That honour tends to be reserved for truly special players.

And after watching the way Kerkez slotted straight in on Sunday, it looks possible that the Hungary international could be one of those.

Amazingly, Kerkez is still just 21.
