Liverpool managed to get over the line again but not every player had the best game.

The Reds made it five wins from five Premier League games on Saturday with a 2-1 win over their Merseyside rivals.

Yet again, they took a two-goal lead, but this time they managed to keep hold of it, even if at points it looked like that was not going to be possible.

Some players had an excellent game yet again, including Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike, with both showing their quality yet again.

However, there is one player in particular who was a little quiet and not for the first time this season, with Liverpool fans believing that he should be dropped for their next league match.

When Luis Diaz departed in the summer, it looked like it would be Cody Gakpo’s time to shine in a Liverpool shirt after waiting so long to get his chance on a regular basis.

And, he started the season well and looked a real threat off the left, but for the third game in a row, he was very quiet and failed to make an impact.

With Arne Slot having so many options too, many fans believe that it is Gakpo who should be dropped ahead of their fixture with Crystal Palace next weekend.

One fan wrote after the game: “Slot needs to deal with the elephant in the room (Gakpo) at some point, while another added: “Gakpo is so predictable, change it up brother.

Everyone knows your move.”

A third cannot believe his performances after such a promising start, writing: “Gakpo is upsetting to watch this season, what happened?”

Another wrote: “Gakpo is just not in form at the moment,” while a fifth added: “Gakpo…..I’m trying brother.

We upgraded drastically at the nine position, but the cost was downgrading on the left.”

A seventh supporter said: “He is just so frustrating to watch,” while a final fan admitted that he needs to find his form quickly, writing: “Cody Gakpo really has to get back to form.

Not quite a performance yesterday.”

The silver lining with Gakpo not performing to his highest level is that Slot has other options which he can utilise if needed.

As seen in previous games, he is willing to experiment too, with Florian Wirtz playing out wide for spells in the last two matches.

As well as this, Rio Ngumoha has been trusted there on a few occasions and could get more game time, with the 17-year-old the most natural option of the lot.

However, Ekitike could also be used on the flank so that he can play in the same team as Alexander Isak, something he has done before when playing for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Options are certainly aplenty for Liverpool, but for Gakpo, he needs to step up if he is to avoid losing his place in the side.
