Liverpool may have tasted defeat but some of their new players showed exactly why they were signed.
The Reds got their pre-season tour underway with a 4-2 loss to AC Milan, although they will not mind too much as the main thing at this point is for players to get minutes under their belts.
Youngsters and new signings in particular will have been keen to impress, and they certainly did, with the likes of Rio Ngumoha and Florian Wirtz shining in the first half.
The second 45 minutes are where things went a little pear-shaped, although there were still some standout performers, with one new arrival leaving his mark on the game as he bids for a place in the starting XI next season.

New signings sometimes take a little bit of time to settle in and maybe do not look as sharp when they first arrive, however the new Liverpool boys look to have hit the ground running.
Wirtz was excellent on his debut in front of a crowd and certainly stole the spotlight, but Jeremie Frimpong also deserves a lot of credit for his 45 minutes.
The Dutchman played at right-wing and caused real problems down that flank, leaving Liverpool fans in awe as he indicated what he will bring to the team for the upcoming season.
On X, one fan wrote after seeing his performance: “This Frimpong cameo went under the radar, wasn’t even in his preferred position absolute baller.”

Another supporter put: “Frimpong will be so good for us.
Though we lost, I enjoyed every part of his touches, passes and speed.”

A fourth fan put: “Frimpong just reminded me of Mane!” While another simply added: “Jeremie Frimpong is so good.”
A sixth wrote: “This Jeremie Frimpong is going to be a problem.”
One fan was seriously impressed and believes he will be a massive upgrade on Trent Alexander-Arnold, writing: “This Jeremie Frimpong performance makes me realise how much of an upgrade he actually is in that position I am so moved right now.
What a performance.”
A final fan put: “People are underestimating just how good a transfer Frimpong is by the way…”
In previous years, the majority of Liverpool’s attacks have come down the right flank, with this only set to continue next season now that Frimpong is part of the team.
The majority of attacks will, of course, come through Mohamed Salah, but the threat that the Reds have with the overlapping full-back to his right is truly frightening.
Whether that be Frimpong or Conor Bradley, the right-back will be playing almost as a second winger next season, with both expected to chip in with a fair few goal involvements.
After spending almost £30m on the Dutchman, most will expect him to be first-choice, although Bradley has been preferred there thus far in pre-season.
