Liverpool supporters were given a small glimpse into some of the top talent at the club’s disposal during Sunday’s pre-season win over Preston.
The Reds began their summer schedule with a comfortable victory at Deepdale, in a game very much dedicated to the memory of Diogo Jota.
With many of the biggest hitters in the Liverpool squad missing, Arne Slot gave a chance to some of his burgeoning young players.
Rio Ngumoha caught the eye, exploding into the starting XI and looking a threat every time the ball was at his feet.
It was not only Ngumoha, though, Trey Nyoni quietly stood out at Deepdale, and the midfielder is a long-standing favourite of Slot.
But while they may have done enough initially, the next leg of Liverpool‘s pre-season should really separate which players the Dutch coach thinks could have a future in the senior team.

After getting over the tough hurdle of their first game since Jota’s death, Liverpool will fly to Hong Kong on Sunday.
MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
This is the real meat of Liverpool’s pre-season and, as a result, it will be fascinating to see who makes it onto the plane.
Unlike last year, when Slot had to travel to the USA with most of his senior players missing, the Liverpool head coach has the luxury of a full group to pick from.

As a result, we are likely to see fewer young faces than 12 months ago.
And, because of that, those who do get the nod can be considered the cream of the crop.
Although Liverpool are clearly well-stocked with quality across the board at the moment, there is always room for a young star to break through.
And though they may be few in number, those travelling this weekend will be the ones to keep an eye on in that respect.
Throughout Slot’s time at Liverpool, he has tended to rely on the same, small-ish group of young players to bolster first team training.
Ngumoha is clearly a special talent and it is likely he will be part of the team who travel to face Milan and Marinos.
Nyoni is another well-used to being around the first team and it would be a surprise if he did not make the squad.
Meanwhile, the likes of James McConnell and Jayden Danns may be in with a chance, while other youngsters included on Sunday such as Luca Stephenson, Amara Nallo and Kieran Morrison will feel they have a chance.
It could be that Slot puts a surprise player or two in there to get a closer look at them as well.
Either way, fans are about to find out which young players the boss is considering ahead of the new campaign.
