Despite Liverpool not taking part in this summer’s inaugural FIFA Club World Cup, not all of their players have the summer off.

The Reds were spared participation for the tournament in America, where Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea have had a mixed time so far.

But while Virgil van Dijk has been spotted holidaying with Ronaldo, the Brazilian superstar, and other members of the Liverpool squad have been taking time off, three players have been hard at work.

The trio in question are Tyler Morton, Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah, who were all called into Lee Carsley’s England squad for the UEFA U21 European Championship in Slovakia.

Rousing The Kop picked out 15 players to watch at this summer’s U21 Euros, but perhaps we should have been focusing a little closer to home.

After England beat Spain on Saturday to qualify for the semi-final, Liverpool supporters certainly think Morton is deserving of better than what he’s been afforded at Anfield.

Morton played only five times for Liverpool last season, failing to make a single appearance in the Premier League.

But having seen him dominate an experienced Spanish midfield in Trnava on Saturday, fans are certain that Morton is heading for a good career in the game.

“Always rated Morton,” one supporter commented.

Shame he didn’t get a few more minutes this season as felt like his style would suit Slot.”

“Tyler Morton is excellent whenever he plays.

It will be excellent buy who ever sign him,” someone else added.

“Why didn’t Slot ever use Tyler Morton?

“I can’t work out why bottom half PL clubs aren’t banging down our door for Tyler Morton.

Impressed every time I see him,” another supporter opined.

“Really looking forward to seeing Tyler Morton’s career progression,” one more fan commented.

But with Liverpool reportedly holding out for more than £20m to sell the 22-year-old, the transfer broke down.

This summer, after a season of barely playing, the Reds will no doubt have to drop that valuation considerably to get Morton off the books.

A good performance at this summer’s U21 tournament could help to keep his price tag reasonable, but Liverpool should not price Morton out of a move if they are not planning to use him.

As fans have pointed out, the midfielder is more than capable of playing Premier League football next season, and once his involvement with England has finished, it is likely that an exit will be arranged.
