Liverpool made their fourth major signing of the summer on Wednesday as Hugo Ekitike joined from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ekitike follows Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez in moving to Anfield, while goalkeepers Freddie Woodman and Armin Pecsi have also arrived.
Although the excitement surrounding Wirtz’s signing will take some beating, it is always brilliant to add a new centre-forward to the Liverpool squad.
As a result, supporters are rightfully gleeful about the prospect of Ekitike playing for Liverpool.
However, in the age of social media, how a new addition is announced creates the same excitement within some fans as the signing itself.
And, for that reason, some Liverpool fans were left less than impressed with how the club unveiled Ekitike’s arrival on Wednesday evening.

With fans expecting big things, the pressure is often on football clubs and their media teams to come up with something impressive for new signings.
But Liverpool rather forewent this on Wednesday, simply posting a photo of a smiling Ekitike in last season’s shirt, with an announcement to say the deal had been completed subject to international clearance.

“This Ekitike announcement is very weak,” one fan commented, with another adding: “Ekitike announcement is giving ‘straight to business’.”
“Shame our media team couldn’t give Ekitike a proper announcement but we need him for the tour,” another agreed.

“To make up for that announcement, they better have a camera following around Ekitike the second he lands in Hong Kong,” someone else suggested, with another claiming: “That’s obviously not the only Ekitike announcement the club have planned.”
“You can tell the bulk of the media team are in Hong Kong at the minute,” one more fan pointed out.
“Bit of an subdued announcement of Ekitike.
Excited to see him in action nonetheless!”
Others agreed to give Liverpool the benefit of the doubt due to the absence of most of the usual team.
“The reason behind the ‘underwhelming’ announcement of Hugo Ekitike is timing, they can’t do a proper media day because we need him for the tour,” one fan said, with another suggesting the kitchen staff had been put in charge of the post.
“Not only the media team is in Hong Kong, Ekitike haven’t even gone to the AXA yet.
Probably why the announcement is like that,” someone else put forward.
Along with announcing the signing of Ekitike, Liverpool also revealed what number the Frenchman will be wearing as he heads off to join the Far East tour.
As with the other new signings, fans will have to wait to find out what Ekitike’s permanent number will be.
In the meantime, he is set to wear the No.
9 vacant, for example, it could signal what further business Liverpool are planning.
