Liverpool fans are all saying the same thing after watching Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid debut

Liverpool still have a big summer in store and will likely lose some more key players.

Every so often, change is needed to keep things fresh and bring something different so that rival teams do not know what to expect, and this is something the Reds are doing this summer.

They are certainly signing big and, therefore, need to raise as much money as possible to be able to facilitate such moves.

One player who could have helped them to do this would have been Trent Alexander-Arnold, although the scouser departed for very little and certainly significantly less than they should have received.

To allow him to play in the Club World Cup, Real Madrid paid £10m in compensation, a tiny fee that will rub salt into the wounds of Reds fans who are still left fuming at his decision.

However, after the right-back made his debut for his new club, Liverpool fans may have had the last laugh and they are all saying the same thing after Alexander-Arnold’s lacklustre performance.

Alexander-Arnold has decided to re-brand himself as just ‘Trent’ as he starts his new chapter, but it is safe to say that his new look has been overshadowed by the same weaknesses he showed during his time at Anfield.

The 26-year-old struggled defensively against Al Hilal in Madrid’s opening Club World Cup fixture, with social media going into meltdown while all the eyes were on him.

After being subbed off after 65 minutes, one Liverpool fan wrote on X: “TRENT STINKER AND HOOKED,” followed by three skull emojis.

A second fan put: “Alexander-Arnold has made more passes to Al Hilal than for Real Madrid,” highlighting how even his passing could not get him out of trouble.

A third jokingly added: “‘We signed Trent for free,'” yeah we can tell!”

“I’m so glad that I don’t purposely have to delude myself every game about Trent being good at defending,” one fan admitted.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold vs Al Hilal Debut disasterclass,” another one wrote.

A sixth fan, quite hilariously, put: “‘Trent’ looks like an even worse defender than Alexander-Arnold was,” while another added: “Trent trying to defend is one of the funniest things ever man.”

A final fan put: “Trent lost more duels than any other player in the first half of Real Madrid vs.

Al-Hilal…not the best debut.”

Seeing how a player performs on the eye is one thing and Alexander-Arnold certainly struggled to get up to speed, but the statistics do not give him any favours.

Defensively he was rather poor, making just one tackle, winning just one of his four ground duels and losing possession 12 times.

However, he also struggled on the ball, an area in which he usually thrives and where he makes up for his defensive frailties.

Surprisingly, he only touched the ball 56 times, a much lower figure than he would expect at Liverpool as almost everything went through him.

Just one cross and key pass also highlight how he struggled to get into the game, but as this is his first in a Madrid shirt, he can surely only improve as he gets up to speed.
