Fans are convinced Virgil van Dijk bit his tongue to avoid naming Alexander Isak when asked who the toughest striker he faced last season was.

I'll have to come back to you," he told Men in Blazers, before following up with a cheeky query of his own: "Who did you want me to say?"

That coy response set social media alight, with many fans convinced he was alluding to Newcastle forward Isak - who has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield this summer.

Another wrote: "Van Dijk thinking of Isak and not being sure whether he can say it haha." While a third added: "He definitely wanted to name Isak there, but knew it would cause problems."
