A fan-led review into the future of English football could see fans have the power to veto certain decisions if recommendations were taken on board.

For Liverpool, the ability to have more of a fan-led approach to certain decisions was brought into sharp focus after the fallout from the failed European Super League plot back in April, of which the Reds were a major part.

A government review, led by Conservative MP Tracey Crouch, has made a series of recommendations in a report that was published on Wednesday night, with such issues as the distribution of wealth through the English football pyramid via a levy on transfer fees, and a 'golden share' for supporters to veto some decisions included.

It shows ambition worthy of our national game.

The review proposals, if they were adopted, would allow fans a veto on such things as joining a new competition, selling the stadium or changing the traditional colours of the football club.

After Fenway Sports Group chief and Liverpool's principal owner John W Henry's apology less than 48 hours after the launch of the ESL, a push was made to seek more fan representation on the board at Liverpool, with the Reds' Spirit of Shankly supporters' trust canvassing members over the issue with 89 per cent wanting to see greater fan representation at board level.

Each Golden Share right should have circumstances in which it will not apply."
