Liverpool fans furious after learning Real Madrid’s ‘disgraceful’ new Trent Alexander-Arnold request

It’s safe to say Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool has divided opinion.

The right-back was booed during his first appearance at Anfield since announcing he’d be leaving the club.

While some fans recognise his achievements for the club, the nature of his exit – on a free transfer to Real Madrid – has rubbed a lot of supporters up the wrong way.

Therefore it’s unsurprising when any updates on Alexander-Arnold create a massive reaction online from Liverpool fans.

Recently, a resurfaced video of Jeremie Frimpong sharing his thoughts on the soon-to-be Real Madrid star got supporters talking.

Now there’s been another twist to the Trent saga that’s generated a visceral response from Reds online.

The Telegraph is reporting that Real Madrid have asked Liverpool to release Trent Alexander-Arnold before his contract ends for free.

Real have made the request, with no financial offer alongside it, in order to get Alexander-Arnold involved in the Club World Cup which starts on June 15th.

The right-back’s contract is set to expire on June 30th, and the Spanish club are counting on Liverpool just letting Alexander-Arnold leave early through sheer goodwill.

The 26-year-old would miss the Club World Cup’s entire group stage as it stands, with Real set to play Al-Hilal on June 18th, Pachuca on June 22nd and RB Salzburg on June 27th.

The knock-out stages begin on June 28th, with the last-16 games wrapping up by July 1st.

Therefore Alexander-Arnold may not even be able to play in the tournament for his new team if they fail to progress past that stage.

The new and expanded tournament is being held in the US, so he’d need to join the squad to fly out there.

The Telegraph reports that Real Madrid had contacted Liverpool last week, following Alexander-Arnold announcing his departure.

It was assumed then that Real would enter into negotiations with Liverpool over a fee to secure his early release.

However, that has not happened.

Liverpool fans have predictably not responded well to Real Madrid asking for Trent Alexander-Arnold to be released early for free.

As the news broke online, Reds were quick to share their opinions.

One supporter said: “Disgraceful football club.

They think they can do anything they want.”

Another added: “I hope Trent has seen how much they value him and his boyhood club.

He should hang his head in shame for even putting his club in this situation.”

One fan suggested the club accepting the request could have a negative impact for future deals: “If the club relents, they will be run all over in the future by others.”

Another Red laid it out very clearly: “Zero incentive at all to do Madrid or the player any favours.

Literally pay for it or wait.”

While one fan saw a cheeky potential counter offer Liverpool could send back to Real: “Sure, but include Rodrygo in the deal somehow.”
