Liverpool face Newcastle on Monday evening in a match which has more than a little narrative riding on it.

The Reds have been trying to sign Alexander Isak for the best part of six weeks, with Newcastle as of yet showing little desire to sell their star man.

Essentially, the transfer saga appears to boil down to the fact that the Magpies have not yet attained the replacements they need to let Isak go.

Nevertheless, there has been a feeling brewing for a little while that Monday’s game needed to happen before any movement happened either way.

As a result of the standoff, Newcastle fans have declared Liverpool and anyone associated with them to be public enemy number one.

However, after rumours circulated on social media on Monday morning, Liverpool fans are growing concerned that Alexis Mac Allister is not going to make the trip.

Mac Allister is one of Liverpool’s most important players.

His partnership with Ryan Gravenberch has been badly missed in the two games so far this season.

Gravenberch is set to return on Monday, but after a video of the Liverpool players getting off the team bus in Newcastle surfaced – with Mac Allister seemingly missing from it – fans are getting worried.

“Apparently, Mac Allister wasn’t with the team bus at the hotel last night,” one supporter posted.

Yeah, we’re not winning that game,” was one more’s take.

With the Argentine seemingly set to miss out, fans are expecting Curtis Jones to step into his midfield role, with mixed verdicts.

“No Mac Allister will mean Curtis Jones will start in the pivot and ultimately we’ll be done in the transitions again.

“I beg that Mac Allister plays because I can’t be having Curtis Jones be playing in a game like this.”

“Mac Allister a huge miss,” said one more supporter.

“Jones Gravenberch double pivot unless Bradley is back, in which case Szoboszlai Gravenberch.”

At the time of writing it has yet to be confirmed whether Mac Allister has indeed been left out of the travelling squad against Newcastle.

However, if the 26-year-old does not make it, then it will be a risk for Slot to play Jones in the middle.

The Scouser is a fine player, but Liverpool often look far too open with him playing in a deeper role.
