Liverpool fans think Harvey Elliott may have just bid an emotional farewell to Anfield, and played what could turn out to be his final game for the club.

The England U21 international was on target as the Reds beat Athletic Club 4-1 in the first of two friendlies against the Bilbao club at Anfield on Monday.

Elliott was one of the few relatively senior players in a young Liverpool side, alongside the likes of Andy Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister.

Speculation is rife that Elliott could soon be on the move though, with recent reports suggesting a move to RB Leipzig could be on the cards.

Having seen his stock rise under Jurgen Klopp, Elliott found his chances much harder to come by last season under Arne Slot, and it would appear that he has fallen further down the pecking order following the arrival of Florian Wirtz.

Elliott has addressed his future on a number of occasions already in recent months, and has always maintained that he wants to stay at Anfield, albeit while recognizing he may have to move elsewhere in order to get more game time.

He made his adoration for the club clear after scoring against Athletic as he grabbed the Liverpool badge on his shirt while saluting the crowd, but it was his actions at full-time that caught the attention of a lot of fans.

Supporters spotted him walking around the pitch as he acknowledged the crowd, which in itself is nothing out of the ordinary.

Seeing him doing it on his own though, and blowing a kiss to the Kop, has led supporters to deduce that an exit could be close for the midfielder.

Elliott has never expressed a particular desire to leave Liverpool, but he did admit last month that next year’s World Cup could play a part in a decision over his future.

"If I had my way, I’d be at Liverpool for the rest of my career,” Elliott said.

Harvey Elliott applauds the fans after Liverpool's win over Athletic Club.

My main focus is here, unless anything changes."

Liverpool.com says: If that is to be the last time we see Elliott playing for Liverpool, then we wish him the best of luck for the future.

You can't really blame him if he does choose to move on this summer
