Liverpool supporters will already feel at a disadvantage ahead of facing Crystal Palace after the latest update.

The Reds have often struggled against the Eagles, and with Man United target Oliver Glasner still at the helm, the home fans will be confident ahead of the game at Selhurst Park on Saturday, 27 September.

Liverpool beat Everton 2-1 at Anfield to move five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with Mikel Arteta‘s faltering during a frustrating draw against Man City at the weekend.

Arne Slot‘s side are next up against Southampton in the Carabao Cup, but with youngsters more than likely to start the game, many have already switched their focus to their next league fixture.

Announcements have been made for the weekend’s fixtures, with Chris Kavanagh in charge at Selhurst Park as Palace take on Liverpool for the first time since the Community Shield in August.

The referee is under immense pressure so far this season, with many surprised that Howard Webb keeps handing high-profile games to him following a series of mistakes.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Keith Hackett wanted Kavanagh suspended due to a mistake in Newcastle United versus Wolves, which saw Yerson Mosquera avoid a straight red card.

Gary Neville was also critical of Kavanagh during Man United‘s early defeat to Arsenal, while his presence also distracted Bruno Fernandes while the Portuguese star took a penalty against Fulham.

It has not been a good start to the season from a refereeing point of view, and Liverpool fans are very well aware of this after losing the Community Shield to Palace at Wembley Stadium ahead of 2025-26.

Adam Wharton avoided a red card for a dangerous challenge on Jeremie Frimpong, with the game eventually going to extra time and penalties due to a missed foul in the build-up to one of Palace’s goals.

Ismaila Sarr’s 77th-minute goal should have been disallowed for a foul on Cody Gakpo, but even with Paul Tierney on VAR, both incidents went unpunished, leaving Liverpool fans absolutely fuming.

Of course, Kavanagh will be looking to put all of that behind him at Selhurst Park, but it is unlikely that the away supporters have forgotten what he did during the Community Shield defeat last month.
