Luis Diaz’s move to Bayern Munich shocked many but the reason has now been revealed why Liverpool agreed to the deal.
After three seasons at Anfield, and after winning the Premier League title with Liverpool last season, Diaz joined Bayern Munich in a deal worth over £60million.
Diaz was not the only high profile departure from Liverpool, as Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid, Jarell Quansah left for Bayer Leverkusen and Darwin Nunez moved to Saudi Arabia.
However, the Colombian contributed 25 goals in all competitions last season, and Arne Slot has spent big in the transfer market to add to his attacking options without him.

Striker Alexander Isak joined Liverpool for a British transfer record fee of £125m from Newcastle, whilst Florian Wirtz arrived for £100m from Bayer Leverkusen and Hugo Ekitike signed from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Athletic [10 September], report that “Liverpool felt compelled to agree,” a sale for Diaz to Bayern Munich when the German’s club offer was raised to €75m due to data behind the deal.
“Liverpool’s data team calculated that only seven other players over the age of 28 had switched clubs for a higher fee, it was felt that the decision represented good business,” it was stated.

With Slot’s attacking options it was felt Diaz was a player they could let go given the price, and the emergence of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha also counted towards the departure.
Liverpool have so far not missed Diaz following three consecutive wins to begin their Premier League title defence including their latest 1-0 win over rivals Arsenal.
Diaz has made a fine start to life at Bayern Munich with three goals and two assists in his opening four games for the club.
The fee they received, alongside the sales of other stars, meant Liverpool were able to reinvest the money into the high profile capture of Isak.

Isak could make his Liverpool debut against Burnley following the international break, and Arne Slot now has a problem fitting all his attacking talent into the same starting XI.
Ekitike has started life brightly at Anfield, but Isak could replace the Frenchman in a like for like change.
