Liverpool finally appear to have their heart set on a Jurgen Klopp replacement and have already begun talks.
After being linked with Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim the Reds have decided to pursue Feyenoord boss, Arne Slot.
The 45-year-old guided Feyernood to the Eredivisie title last season and is also apparently on Bayern Munich’s radar however Liverpool have opted to move now.
According to The Mirror, a compensation package of £8.6m would be what Liverpool need to pay to prize the Dutchman away – who has still has two years left on his contract.
Having established himself as one of the best coaches in the Netherlands, Slot has previously expressed his desire to test himself overseas and ideally would like to test himself in a new country when the time is right.
Slot is also rumoured to be highly admired by people at Liverpool, particularly for his ability to develop young players and his high-pressing style of play that is similar to Klopp.
Dutch legend Marco van Basten has also tipped him for great success wherever he ends up.
“I think Slot is really good.
I hope he stays in the Netherlands longer, because it is an enrichment for Dutch football,” he said.
“He can really go anywhere: Bayern Munich, Liverpool… I’m really convinced of that.
I hope he stays in the Netherlands, but I am convinced he can do it anywhere.
I really think he can go to any club, even difficult clubs.
He is very smart in his choice of words.”
Roberto De Zerbi is another name that is admired by people at Anfield but it appears that Slot is the first choice candidate.
