Ranel Young has made a surprise move to Europe after turning down the offer of a new Liverpool contract.

Young, a 19-year-old forward, has signed for FK Usce in the second tier of the Serbian League.

The Belgrade-based side, who won promotion from the third division last season and begin their new campaign next weekend, confirmed the signing on Friday morning.

Young joined the Reds' Academy as an under-12 from Huddersfield Town and worked his way through the ranks to become a regular with the U21s.

He made a significant breakthrough last October when he was an unused substitute for Arne Slot's senior side for the League Cup victory at Brighton.

Young also made the matchday squad for the FA Cup fourth round defeat at Plymouth Argyle in February, but once again failed to emerge from the bench.

The teenager, who can operate both out wide and down the centre of the attack, was among a number of Academy players to have been offered new deals at the end of last season.

Kareem Ahmed, Emmanuel Airoboma, Wellity Lucky, Terence Miles, Michael Laffey and Keyrol Figueroa have all subsequently extended their stays at Kirkby and have featured for the under-21 side in pre-season.
